Abstract

Psychological resilience enables the individual to successfully cope with the negativities that occur in stressful periods and may trigger their mental health. Mental health encompasses not only the absence of mental illness but also the ability to develop an individual's potential, work productively and innovatively, form positive and strong relationships with others, and contribute to society. In this context, this research aims to investigate the effect of psychological resilience on mental health. The sample of the research consists of 479 students studying at a vocational school of a university in the Black Sea Region in the 2022-2023 academic year. The data of the study were obtained by using the "Short Psychological Resilience Scale" adapted into Turkish by Doğan (2015) and the "Positive Mental Health Scale" adapted into Turkish by Yılmaz-Akbaba and Eldeleklioğlu (2019). Within the scope of the research, reliability analysis, frequency analysis, exploratory and confirmatory factor analysis, correlation analysis and structural equation model path analysis were used. As a result of the correlation analysis, a statistically significant positive (r= .51) statistical relationship was found between resilience and mental health. As a result of the path analysis, the findings showed that psychological resilience positively affects mental health and explains 30% of the change in mental health.
